Dive Brief:
- “Pre-experience” masters degree programs in business — including Masters in Management programs — are growing more popular, especially in Europe, Forbes reports.
- Demand for part-time MBAs is declining, according to a GMAC report showing 53% of programs surveyed with declining application numbers last year.
- MiM programs are on the rise, with 58% of the GMAC-surveyed programs reporting an increase of applications and 61% reporting an increase one year earlier.
Dive Insight:
Writing for Forbes, Matt Symonds, co-director of Fortuna Admissions, an MBA admissions consultant, says that the hiring of people with MiM degrees in Europe is outpacing MBA hiring. While MBA programs typically require two years of prior real-world experience, MiM programs accept students recently graduated from undergrad programs. Three reasons for the popularity of MiM programs: Their graduates are perceived as more flexible and open to new business models; more than half of MiM applicants are women, so their graduates present more opportunities to expand their talent pool; and MiM graduates are more likely to be mobile — younger and without a family — and more willing to take risks.
