Dive Brief:
- The Chronicle of Higher Education has published the results of its Great Colleges to Work For 2014 survey, recognizing 92 colleges as outstanding, based on responses from more than 43,500 campus employees.
- The seventh annual list measures responses in 12 categories: collaborative governance; compensation and benefits; confidence in senior leadership; diversity; facilities, workspace and security; job satisfaction; professional career-development programs; respect and appreciation; supervisor or department chair relationship; teaching environment; tenure clarity and process; and work/life balance.
- Of the 92 on the outstanding list, 42 were named to the “honor roll” for their recognition in multiple categories.
Dive Insight:
Here’s yet another colleges list, but it was obviously created more for staff than for prospective students — and no Ivy League schools made the cut. The list of 92 can be broken down and sorted by size (small, medium, large), type (two or four years), and by any of the aforementioned 12 recognition categories. One drawback of the list is that the survey covers a limited pool of colleges and universities — 278 schools in all. The survey was administered by ModernThink LLC, a management consultant.
