Edmodo launches new app aimed at increasing parental involvement

Dive Brief:

  • Social learning network Edmodo this week announced the launch of an Edmodo for Parents app, allowing parents to track their child's work and learn how they can help meet learning goals.
  • In a blog post accompanying the announcement, Edmodo General Manager of Consumer Ketan Kothari stresses the importance of parental involvement on academic achievement.
  • While advances in ed tech are typically classroom-centric, the company says this doesn't have to and shouldn't be the case.

Dive Insight:

With Edmodo billed as "the largest K-12 social learning community," it only makes sense that parents would be a part of the equation. Parental involvement can not only ensure that students complete tasks, but it can spark a love of learning and help students develop critical thinking skills outside of the classroom.

According to Edmodo, the company developed the parent app because the parent experience had evolved. When the company interviewed educators about “important stakeholders in education," 90% brought up parents.
