The rankings are based on six criteria — two of them are the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, and the number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science. The rankings also feature top schools by subject fields. Berkley is No. 1 in natural sciences and mathematics, physics, and chemistry; MIT is tops in engineering/technology and computer sciences; Harvard is No. 1 for life and agriculture sciences, clinical medicine and pharmacy, economics/business, and social sciences; Stanford is first for computer science; and Princeton is ranked first for mathematics.
