Dive Brief:
- Test preparation company Kaplan has purchased Dev Bootcamp, a program that teaches software coding skills in nine weeks, for an undisclosed price.
- The Dev Bootcamp deal makes Kaplan the largest test preparation provider in the world and one of the largest players in the coding boot camp market, according to the company.
- Dev Bootcamp will continue to operate independently, and the acquisition won’t change day-to-day activities for students or staff.
Dive Insight:
Dev Bootcamp program has graduated more than 600 students since its start in February 2012, and it boasts an 85% employment rate among its graduates, as measured after four months. The coding bootcamps are aimed at providing skills for entry-level positions in software development. Kaplan made its foray into the “new economy skills training,” or NEST, market in December 2013 with Metis, which provides bootcamps for data science, product design, and software coding.
