Dive Insight:
The array of leaders ranges from Matthew Ramirez, who uses artificial intelligence to teach students how to write, to Sarahi Espinoza Salamanca, a formerly undocumented student who founded the DREAMers RoadMap project.
Texas native Matthew Ramirez's company, WriteLab, has reportedly acquired around $2.5 million in funding already. WriteLab is being used in a total of 53 schools across the U.S. The company's website describes the product as "the world's most advanced writing platform," noting that WriteLab algorithms analyze writing and generate comments to help draft, revise and polish student writing.
Cañana College student Sarahi Espinoza Salamanca won a half-million dollar 2015 Voto Latino Innovators Challenge in 2015. She'll be launching an app aimed at helping undocumented students find scholarships. "We have a dream that education equity will be realized for every single person living in this country," the DREAMer Roadmap website states. "Our mission is to help 10,000 students access scholarship opportunities in year one."
