Dive Brief:
- Some 153 Advance Placement answer sheets were lost when being shipped from a California school to the testing facility in New Jersey.
- The principal of Esperanza High School told the Orange County Register that they shipped about 10 boxes to Educational Testing Service, and none have arrived.
- For students whose exams went missing, ETS is telling them they can either retake the test, get a refund, or, for certain tests, get the national-average score, allowing them to get university credit.
Dive Insight:
While this is definitely a unique situation, it does bring to light that test glitches can happen anywhere. Computer issues were par for the course this past spring causing some to wonder why we switch over to technology-centered exams to begin with. This scenario with the AP exams indicates that there is never a perfect way to distribute exams. One major difference between the two situations, however, is that with computers, students were hindered during the exam while the latter example saw issues come after.
