Nonprofits in general, including colleges and universities, took advantage of the improving economy to bring in more donations. Of the schools ranked in the top 10, two had donations decrease in 2013: Stanford, which saw donations drop 9.9%, and Yale University at No. 9 with $444.2 million in donations, which was down 18.3%. Three schools in the top 10 had donations jump more than 30% in 2013: USC, up 37.1%; Columbia, up 31.8%; and Cornell University, the No. 8 school with $475 million in donations, up 43.5%.
