Dive Brief:
- Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam is asking parents to provide feedback on the state’s education standards via a new website.
- The responses will then be reviewed in spring by educators in two panels and six advisory teams that have been tasked with making recommendations for next year's standards.
- Standards are normally reviewed every six years, but this parent option is coming only four years after the last changes, according to a press release from the governor's office.
Dive Insight:
This is a really interesting way to utilize technology to garner parent input and support. Currently, Tennessee is dealing with some internal Common Core strife. While all legislative proposals to do away with the Common Core have failed, one asking for a delay in Common Core testing did succeed. It is unclear how much space the national standards have for updates and parent input.
