Dive Brief:
- Udemy announced Wednesday that five million students are now using its online learning marketplace.
- To put the company's growth over the past year into perspective, that's a 213% increase over the 2013, which also saw its course library double, its instructors increase by 6,000, and its revenue expand 160%.
- The year also saw the launch of a corporate learning platform, Udemy for Business, as well as an Android app.
Dive Insight:
It seems like it hasn't even been a year since we reported Udemy reaching two million students. The company has grown rapidly and illustrates that it isn't just MOOCs that traditional institutions should be concerned with, but third parties offering training modules or one-and-done courses, as well — especially if they come with certification, or, as MOOC provider Udacity provides, a "nanodegree."
