DALLAS, Texas , May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Never one to balk at donating his time to a charitable cause, Suresh Babu Gaddam has been spending many of his days volunteering at a local thrift store in Dallas, Texas . Suresh Babu Gaddam has given up each of the last six weekends to help out the thrift store, which has been shorthanded due to an illness that befell the owner of the store unexpectedly.
Gaddam, an acquaintance of the owner and his wife from his previous visits to the store, heard about the illness and quickly offered to help in any way he could. In need of assistance and without any funding in the budget, the thrift store asked Gaddam if he could help the staff out a few hours each week, filling in when the store experienced peak volume.
Suresh Babu Gaddam has never been one to do the minimum of what is asked of him. Instead of lending a few hours each week, he has covered a number of complete shifts at the store. He has been in the thrift store for at least nine hours every Saturday and Sunday, and has covered several weekday evening shifts as well. The time that Gaddam has donated to the store has allowed staff members – many of whom are close relatives of the store's owner – to spend time with their boss as he recovers.
"The owners of the shop are wonderful people, and they always treated me like a member of their family when I came into the store, however infrequently," said Gaddam. "I am very saddened by the circumstances, but I am glad that I could offer some help during this trying time."
While Gaddam has been volunteering, the store's owner has been slowly recovering from his illness. He is currently in the final stages of a physical therapy program, and he expects to return to the shop as soon as possible. He has expressed a great deal of gratitude toward Gaddam for his efforts, to which Gaddam has responded with a great deal of humility.
"Whenever anyone has an opportunity to help someone else, I hope that they take it," said Gaddam. "It is just the right thing to do."
