The kits help meet the demands of educators, utility companies, and museums seeking to increase public understanding of electricity generation and related systems
(Minneapolis, MN) September 14, 2017 – REcharge Labs®, the creators of hands-on renewable energy activities, kits, and comprehensive teacher training, has launched two Power Grid Kits, modular platforms for K-12 students to explore how the electrical grid functions. The Town Power Grid Kit and the City Power Grid Kit demonstrate traditional power generation resources and can allow students to explore the impact of solar and wind power along with electric vehicle charging, smart grid technology and energy efficiency. The accessible wooden block design makes it easy to demonstrate how the grid and its components work together to bring electricity to our homes and businesses, while also exploring core science standards and the challenges of new technologies.
“We use electricity every day, but explaining how it’s delivered, consumed and measured is not an easy task,” said Asia Ward, Co-Director of REcharge Labs. “The Power Grid Kits take a hands-on approach to explaining a complex concept. They are great for the classroom, and are also powerful tools for science museums or utility companies looking to educate communities about their work.”
The Power Grid Kits align to the Energy Literacy Framework, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, to improve the understanding of how electricity is generated, the impact of the electricity generation, and how the “system” works.
The Town Power Grid Kit is available for pre-order for $450 and City Power Grid Kit is available for pre-order for $2,000. In an effort to help educators explore the larger kit, REcharge Labs also has a loaner program for the City Power Grid Kit. The program will allow educators to borrow a City Power Grid Kit for $175, which includes shipping, for two weeks. During their rental period, educators can implement the lessons and activities included with the kit and are encouraged to experiment and develop innovative uses and adaptions, which they can submit to REcharge Labs.
