Accreditation problems shut down U. of Northern Virginia
- The University of Northern Virginia was issued a cease-and-desist letter by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia, effectively shuttering the troubled institution.
- UNVA was stripped of its certificate to operate last Tuesday as a result of its failure to earn accreditation from numerous associations.
- The school was also raided in July 2011 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in an investigation that included charges related to whether the adequacy of its learning facilities and whether proper authorization was obtained for international students' visas.
