Accusations of funding inequity at Rutgers-Newark add to pressure on Pres. Barchi
- Rutgers-Newark administrators and professors attended an Assembly Budget Committee hearing in Newark on Tuesday, telling lawmakers that the current funding system is short-changing students on the campus.
- Faculty and students at the Newark campus have been organizing to protest the allegedly chronic underfunding, and school officials say the university's New Brunswick campus is favored when it comes to funding because that's where the school's administration and other units serving all three campuses are located.
- The complaints add to mounting pressure faced by Rutgers President Robert Barchi, who is currenly facing fallout from the university's highly publicized basketball scandal, and who the Newark students and faculty have accused of minimizing their concerns.
