Dive Brief:
- Community colleges report increasing online enrollment at the same time that overall enrollment in two-year schools is dropping.
- A report by the Instructional Technology Council shows that, in a survey of 142 distance education officials, online enrollments were up 5.2% in 2013.
- The survey also showed 54% of the respondents charging a fee for distance learning courses, ranging from $4 to $75 and averaging $23.
Dive Insight:
One interesting point from the report: Community colleges aren’t enamored with massive open online courses. Only 3% of the survey respondents said they’re using MOOCs, with 73% saying they have no plans to add MOOC content to their courses, Inside Higher Ed reported. That figure is up from 42% one year earlier.
