Did Rutgers' president know about coach's abuse?
- Rutgers president Robert L. Barchi is now facing scrutiny regarding what exactly he knew and when he knew it in the wake of the Wednesday firing of head men's basketball coach Mike Rice Jr.
- Rice was fired after video of him hurling basketballs and yelling gay slurs at players was broadcast nationwide, and while Barchi and athletics director Tim Pernetti previously agreed in December that Rice would be fined and suspended instead of terminated, they quickly changed their mind following the video's broadcast.
- University spokesman Greg Trevor says that Barchi had not seen the video himself until Tuesday and couldn't confirm whether any of the university's Board of Governors saw it before it became public, though Barchi did say in a statement Wednesday that Pernetti previously kept him "fully apprised" of the situation after viewing "video excerpts of basketball practices."
