- Boston's Cengage Learning is funding a Latin American expansion of LearnLaunch Accelerator.
- LearnLaunch, also based in Boston, provides seed money and coaching to startups. With the Cengage backing, the incubator will expand into Cengage’s innovation lab at the University of Chihuahua in Mexico, BetaBoston reported.
- Latin America — from the U.S. border south through Mexico, Central America and South America — is viewed as a promising education technology market with more than 600 million people.
It only makes sense to take higher ed technologies developed for the U.S. market and adapt them for use abroad. LearnLaunch, which is also an international educational services company, will help entrepreneurs adapt their innovations for Latin American markets and also identify Latin American startups that could benefit from incubator funding and services. Cengage, with more than 5,500 employees, sells print and digital textbooks, reference materials, test preparation, and academic materials.
