Education Dept. to grant $1.3M to Newtown schools
- The U.S. Department of Education will give a $1.3 million School Emergency Response to Violence grant to schools in Newtown, Conn.
- The grant is meant to help pay for costs incurred by the district during the December 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and to give school officials counseling and training.
- Education Secretary Arne Duncan will formally announce the grant during a visit to the state Friday, and will also address school safety.
