Fla. Gov. Rick Scott calls education summit following tumultuous summer
- Florida Gov. Rick Scott will host an education summit with educators, business leaders and lawmakers beginning Monday afternoon in Clearwater.
- The summit follows a summer riddle with controversies that led to the resignation of education commissioner Tony Bennett and the implementation of a "safety net" to stop drastic school grade drops due to newer, more challenging exams.
- The summit will focus on the Common Core, the new state exams, the school grading system and teacher evaluations, with the 36 guests including state Board of Education Chairman Gary Chartrand, Florida Education Association President Andy and Florida Charter School Alliance board member John Kirtley.
