Dive Insight:
As with a lot of university scandals, this one would seem to have ties to athletics. While a university investigation found no ties to its athletic program, athletes were found to have made up 45% of the "ghost class" enrollments, despite representing less than 5% of the student body. There's clearly a lot to this story, and some quoted in the article say they are disappointed that only one criminal charge has come of this.
