Harvard's Kathleen McCartney chosen as new Smith College president
- Trustees at Smith College on Monday named Harvard Graduate School of Education Dean Kathleen McCartney, an expert on child development and early education, as its 11th president.
- McCartney helped Harvard's education school raise $162 million, including two $10 million gifts that led to collaborations between the education school and the schools of business and government, and Smith trustees Chairwoman Elizabeth Mugar Eveillard says McCartney is an exceptional leader with a "resonant" understanding of women's education.
- McCartney will take over the position at the Northampton women's college from current president Carol Christ on July 1.
