- Open source-focused nonprofit Linux Foundation has teamed up again with MOOC provider edX to offer a course on Linux system administration.
- Campus Technology reports the original Introduction to Linux will be a prerequisite for Introduction to Linux System Administration, which will end with a certification exam.
- The course will cost $499, discounted to $399 through June 17, and will put students on the path to a career in IT, according to the article.
Tech companies are increasingly partnering with online learning platforms to create courses designed around their operating systems. Google announced a partnership last week with Udacity to train Android app developers. Linux is another operating system, designed to work with free, open source software. Upon completing the second edX course, students should be prepared for an entry-level job in IT. The same goes for Udacity’s Android course, which costs $200 per month, or about $1,200 for average completion, and could get at least a lucky few hired by Google.
