Microsoft Research launches MOOC engineering pilot in India
- Microsoft Research India is rolling out a semester-long Massively Empowered Classroom pilot project with Visvesvaraya Technological University, offering engineering students free certification in algorithm, design and analysis.
- Around 2,000 students from 27 engineering schools have already signed up for the MOOC-like program, which will utilize video lectures and online quizzes and tests, as well as offer the top ten students an opportunity to intern at Microsoft Research.
- MOOCs are becoming increasingly popular in India, and education experts believe MOOCs will transform the way higher learning is delivered to the country's 150 million 18-to-23-year-olds.
