MIT initiative brings STEM education to Haiti
- A new joint initiative by MIT and Haiti will see the Ivy League school bringing STEM education to that country's citizens in their native Kreyól language.
- In collaboration with professors and educators from numerous Haitian institutions, the project--funded by the National Science Foundation and MIT--will translate MIT-developed, technologically-based open education resources into Kreyól, and evaluate its effectiveness after distributing it.
- MIT linguistics professor and Haiti native Michel DeGraff believes that more Haitian education should occur in the Kreyól language, which he feels has been marginalized in classrooms, but he stresses that the initiative isn't meant to replace French.
