As the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's new partnership with Harvard continues to build on the school's MITx platform, the provost who led the way on the program will step up to become M.I.T.'s next president on July 2. L. Rafael Reif, an electrical engineer and native of Venezuela, will continue to back his institute's endeavors in hybrid learning when he replaces current president Susan Hockfield.
"I cannot tell you it is a dream come true because it is a dream I never dared imagine," Reif said, according to a New York Times report.
The former head of M.I.T.'s department of electrical engineering and computer science has served at the institute since 1980.
