Obama immigration reform plan includes DREAM Act provision
- President Obama unveiled his plan for comprehensive immigration reform Tuesday in Las Vegas, just one day after a group of eight senators announced their own plan, and there are similarities as well as implications for higher education.
- Mimicking the DREAM Act, the Obama proposal expedited citizenship to undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children who are either in college or serve in the military for at least two years.
- Additionally, the plan proposes automatically granting a green card upon graduation to immigrants graduating from "qualified U.S. universities" with advanced STEM degrees.
