Occidental faculty overwhelmingly vote 'no confidence' in two administrators
- Occidental College faculty passed a vote of "no confidence" Monday in Dean of Students Barbara Avery and College Counsel Carl Botterud over their handling of sexual assaults on campus.
- According to a federal complaint filed in April by a group of students, the two administrators were partially responsible for the Los Angeles college's failure to properly punish and report sexual misconduct.
- The "no confidence" votes for Avery (65-9) and Botterud (70-6) follows last week's signing by 135 faculty members of a resolution endorsing the Oxy Sexual Assault Coalition's concerns, and sociology department chair Lisa Wade called the symbolic votes a strong and bold stand in support of the victims.
