As Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg gets ready to cash in on the his college-born company's IPO, a new story about a student-oriented site with a much shorter lifecycle is developing at Penn State. A gossip site called PSUacb became a haven for bathroom-wall-style discussions, but the anonymous founder turned the tables on posters, temporarily revealing their full names and university email usernames.
A campus police spokeswoman told The Chonicle of Higher Education that content on PSUacb did not appear to be threatening or actionable. Nevertheless, the story does bring online behavior at campuses and on gossip sites in general into the spotlight.
"Almost every thread on this site received at least 1000 views and I've been raking in advertising money," the site's creator posted. The update also states that several "large media outlets are working on stories about the site," so expect to see more about this story in the news in the coming days.
