State of New York investigating DeVry Education Group
- An 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by DeVry Education Group reveals that the for-profit college provider is under investigation by New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
- Echoing other for-profit investigations, DeVry is alleged to have engaged in “false advertising and deceptive practices" in recruiting students.
- The attorney general's office reportedly sent a letter asking the company to provide "relevant information from January 1, 2011, to the present."
DeVry's filing says it is cooperating with the investigation. While this isn't a federal investigation — at least not yet — it does come at a time when feds are putting several other high-profile for-profit education providers under the magnifying glass. Notably, Corinthian Colleges Inc. was forced out of business in the last month due to federal pressure, and sector heavyweights ITT and Apollo Education Group are now under scrutiny, as well.
