Students allege Title IX, Clery Act violations at 4 big-name universities
- Complaints over the handling of sexual assaults were filed Wednesday against the University of Southern California, Swarthmore College, Dartmouth College and the University of California at Berkeley.
- Included in the filings Wednesday are Title IX complaints accusing the schools of creating a hostile environment for women and inaccurate crime reporting complaints that fall under the Clery Act, according to women's rights attorney Gloria Allred, who is representing the students.
- Representatives for the schools said they couldn't comment on the specifics of the complaints since they haven't yet seen them, but USC Assistant Vice President for Media and Public Relations Carl Marziali and Swarthmore President Rebecca Chopp both relayed their schools' commitments to handling and reporting sexual assault in compliance with federal law.
