Texas Senate confirms Michael Williams as new education commissioner
- In a unanimous vote Tuesday, the Texas Senate confirmed Michael L. Williams as the state's new Commissioner of Education.
- Williams, the first African-American to hold the position in the state's history, was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry in September.
- As head of the Texas Education Agency, Williams will oversee the education of five million K-12 students in both public and charter schools.
