Tornado claims lives at Okla. elementary schools
- A mile-wide tornado that leveled homes and businesses in Moore, Okla. on Monday destroyed Plaza Towers Elementary School and Briarwood Elementary School, killing at least 20 children.
- Teachers at both schools reportedly shielded students with their bodies when the buildings' roofs were torn away by the tornado's 200 mph winds.
- Several children were pulled from the Plaza Towers rubble alive, but rescue and recovery efforts at both schools were made more difficult by the uncertainty of how many students and faculty were inside when the storm hit.
- CNN reports that half of around 40 more bodies from the area yet to be processed are children.
