TowsonGlobal launches ed-tech incubator
- Towson Global, Towson University's business and entrepreneurship hub, launched a new specialized incubator focused on education technology startups, giving Baltimore a boost in the growing industry.
- The university, which is home to the University System of Maryland's Center for Application and Innovation Research in Education, also launched an Office of Academic Innovation aimed at re-imagining program development and teaching strategies.
- Venture capitalist Frank Bonsal—a partner in New Markets Venture Partners and Bonsal Capital, as well as former middle and high school teacher—is serving as TowsonGlobal's interim director and has already brought ed-tech startups Common Curriculum and Immersive 3D into the incubator.

... The Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore released a report in May that shows that the Baltimore metropolitan area is uniquely positioned to support a thriving EdTech industry. Citing the concentration of information technology professionals, local universities and Maryland’s nationally acclaimed school system, the EAGB reports that the region has the capacity to be a national leader in the field.
