Dive Brief:
- The University of Michigan has chosen the provost of Brown University to be its next president.
- Mark Schlissel has a five-year deal and will be paid $750,000 in base salary with a retention bonus of $100,000 a year if he finishes the five years.
- The deal also gives Schlissel a house on campus and a driver.
Dive Insight:
Schlissel is the latest administrator to leave an Ivy League institution for a public research university. We imagine it will be a big transition, but he's well-suited for the job. Schlissel has degrees from Princeton and Johns Hopkins, and his classroom experience includes undergraduate and graduate immunology courses and a large introductory biology course.
