U of South Alabama students petition for additional training and non-lethal weapons for campus PD
- University of South Alabama students are petitioning the school to reevaluate the campus police department's training and equipment following the shooting of unarmed freshman Gil Collar on campus Saturday.
- Deputies say USA police officer Trevis Austin shot and killed Collar after Collar took LSD at BayFest and returned to campus, where he assaulted people in two cars and was shown on surveillance video banging on the USA police station's windows before Austin exited the building with his gun drawn.
- The petition--created Tuesday on Change.org by nursing student Caroline de Freitas--had received 60 of 100 requested signatures prior to a protest held at the police station Wednesday morning.
