Udemy raises $32M as growth continues
- Online learning marketplace Udemy raised $32 million in Series C financing. The round was led by Norwest Venture Partners and included Insight Venture Partners and MHS Capital.
- The funding will help it expand its catalog of content while continuing to expand internationally and improve its products.
- Udemy, which launched in 2010, also reports that revenue increased 300% in the past year and its number of students has grown beyond 3 million in 190 countries.
Other interesting stats from the company: 16,000 courses are currently available, 1,000 are created each month, content is currently available in 10 languages, and the average instructor earns $7,000 on the platform.
Perhaps most interesting, though, is the stat that over 30% of users are taking courses on iPhone, iPad, and Android mobile devices. We spoke with now-CEO Dennis Yang at CES in January, when the company was set to launch its Android offering. Based on what we learned then about the number of Android users worldwide, and especially in the developing world, the company's continued growth isn't particularly surprising — or likely to slow anytime soon.
