Dive Brief:
- Crowdsourced learning app StudyBlue on Wednesday unveiled its ranking of U.S. institutions with the "smartest studiers," based on an analysis of the study habits and success rates for the 1.3 million students who use the app at 203 universities.
- The five most studious universities: Indiana State University, the University of Wyoming, Louisiana Tech University, University of Idaho, and New Mexico State University.
- In what is rare in the world of higher ed rankings, no Ivy League schools appear in the top 20.
Dive Insight:
Of course, as the release stated, the data was gathered from students using StudyBlue's app, so it's essentially more of a "universities with the most studious StudyBlue users." That said, this doesn't necessarily mean that students who are studying in other ways are studying any better, either — and there's still plenty to gather from the data either way. The company intends for the report to be used by prospective students who want to know more about a school's learning environment.
The company limited the institutions it analyzed to those on U.S. News & World Report's National University Rankings, dividing its findings into four categories: Smartest Studiers, Ivy vs. State, Nerdiest Notetakers, and Degree vs. Degree.
