WMU custodial, dining and landscaping employees get raise following 6-month negotiation
- Following six months of contract negotiations, Western Michigan University's 430 maintenance, custodial, dining and landscaping employees will receive a 2% pay raise by January 2013, with an additional 2.5% pay raise by January 2014.
- Members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council ratified the new contract this week, following a special board meeting Friday where the WMU Board of Trustees approved the new contract.
- The new contract calls for a $1 decrease in pay rates (which range from $12 to $22 hourly) for new employees during their first year, a one-time payment of $300 to union employees, and changes to retirement and contribution packages.
