Rosetta Stone Language Courses Receive University of California A-G Approval for High School Language Credit
ARLINGTON, VA (November 9, 2015) — In what will be a boon to World Language education for the state of California, Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE: RST) today announced that it has received A-G certification from University of California, allowing high school students throughout the state to earn foreign language course credit towards graduation through its virtual world language program. School districts now have the option of leveraging Rosetta Stone Spanish I and II as a for-credit alternative, enabling students to complete the two year language requirement for college admission using Rosetta Stone at school, home or on their personal mobile device.
The courses are built (module/unit/lesson) using Bloom’s Taxonomy and meet the highest national standards, including fulfilling all 15 of the “power standards” identified by the University of California and satisfying at least 27 of the remaining standards from the iNACOL Standards for Quality Online Courses. To meet the University of California’s A-G subject requirements, the two courses were also evaluated for and received the California Learning Resource Network (CLRN) certification, confirming they meet at least 80% of the relevant California Content Standards or Common Core State Standards.
“It’s critical that we help prepare students to join an increasingly global workforce in which language proficiency will play a key role in their success,” said Judy Verses, President of Rosetta Stone’s Global Enterprise & Education division. “This certification is particularly significant because it confirms the rigor of our courses that combine research-based instruction with engaging digital content and real-time actionable data that accelerates personalized learning.”
The high school courses that receive A-G approval span the subjects of math, English, history/government, science and world languages. School districts throughout the state will offer Rosetta Stone Spanish I and II, engaging students with advanced instruction and practice in reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Three levels of instruction support blended-learning environments, traditional classrooms and stand-alone courses.
