This is the second time Cal State LA has been named a HEED Award recipient.
“We’re proud to be recognized again by INSIGHT magazine,” said Cal State LA President William A. Covino. “Cal State LA reflects the multicultural mix that is Los Angeles. We are L.A., and we recognize that there is strength in our diversity.”
INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected Cal State LA for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
“Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being accomplished every day across their campus,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
Under the leadership of Octavio Villalpando, the university’s Office of the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion works to develop programs and initiatives to close the achievement gap, increase faculty diversity and strengthen community engagement. Villalpando also oversees the implementation of the Academic Affairs strategic plan for diversity and inclusion.
At Cal State LA, students are required to complete two diversity courses that fulfill their general education requirements.
Cal State LA is committed to transforming lives through inclusion, education and opportunity. As a premier public university in vibrant and diverse Los Angeles, Cal State LA continues to propel its students to greater prosperity.
