International, STEM-focused school helps students discover new career paths in partnership with local businesses
HOUSTON, (February 27, 2019) The Village School, a Nord Anglia Education (NAE) international school, is pleased to announce TeKedra Pierre as its new Internship Coordinator. Pierre, an experienced educator with over 13 years of experience, will focus on enhancing Village’s innovative internship program that provides both day and residential students with hands-on opportunities throughout the school year for career education, exploration and preparation to be global citizens.
Village encourages its students to explore and experience different career paths, even if they are unsure of what field they want to pursue, through a multi-faceted approach. This includes internship opportunities, job shadowing, hands-on experience, school curriculum, and mentorship. Village’s internship program is continuing to expand to incorporate a range of exclusive opportunities for its students at local university, industry, and public sector entities.
“I cannot wait to cultivate the internship program here at The Village School so that students can take advantage of it throughout the year, not just during the summer,” said Pierre. “Village has such a versatile and enriching curriculum and with a tailored internship, students have a chance to use what they learn in the classroom in the real world. I look forward to working with students to find opportunities that excite and inspire them and with local corporations and organizations who are looking for young and eager talent.”
Being part of Village for only a few months, Pierre has already developed unique partnerships with industry-leading companies like Cisco, Houston Methodist Hospital, and Pimcore that can help lead students to careers in those respective fields. Pierre will also work closely with the Entrepreneurship Diploma and leverage the many resources within the NAE network, such as collaborations with MIT and The Juilliard School. High school students who participate can broaden their critical-thinking skills through this highly differentiated and experiential program.
“TeKedra is a great addition to the Village family. Her extensive experience in career coaching and her ties to the community will help us continue to educate well-rounded students who are prepared for the future,” said Katherine Brewer, Head of School at The Village School. “Expanding and diversifying the internship program and offering it year-round for constant learning is central to TeKedra’s goals, and we are excited to see her succeed, so our students succeed.”
Before joining Village, Pierre served as a program coordinator for two different schools in Texas, where she provided mentorship and real-world experience for high school students. She created and organized curriculum, session activities, and guest speakers, as well as created opportunities for students in a wide variety of industries. From connecting students to community decision-makers to managing the career and technical education programs for Dentistry and Nursing, Pierre has experience in guiding students toward a range of different interests, internships and careers.
