Motivational notes to be donated and shared with educators and students
Thursday, April 9, 2020 - New York, NY- Classroom, Inc., an education technology nonprofit helping middle school students develop reading, writing, and career skills, today announced the launch of a motivational crowdsourcing effort in response to COVID-19. The Words of Encouragement campaign is collecting and sharing uplifting notes to encourage middle school students while they learn at home.
This past fall, Classroom, Inc. ran a successful Words of Encouragement campaign for Giving Tuesday. The organization collected and shared thousands of words of encouragement with teachers and students who participated in the Read to Lead program. Read to Lead, created by Classroom, Inc., is an award-winning learning game platform that helps middle school students improve literacy and leadership skills to prepare them for a successful future in college, career, and life.
The impact of the donated messages was incredibly powerful. Students and educators shared that the notes offered much-needed encouragement and helped students see a broader community that wants them to succeed in school and beyond.
With schools now closed, educators face new challenges of keeping their students engaged. Classroom, Inc. saw a unique opportunity to relaunch this campaign and give people across the country an opportunity to create a moment of joy for middle school students who may be feeling more isolated and anxious learning at home.
“Read to Lead enables our students to make their own decisions and think critically about life and their community while building their literacy and comprehension,” shares Marcella Carr, Principal of the Brooklyn Green School in New York City. “It’s an important part of our curriculum and a big part of the culture of our school. Words of encouragement will help my educators and students continue to use Read to Lead while our school building is closed.”
The Words of Encouragement campaign is part of a national effort to support educators and students during school closures. Through Read to Lead, Classroom, Inc. provides free curriculum and research-based learning games to educators, students, and families. Additional resources include virtual learning guidance, webinars for educators transitioning to distance learning, and parent resources to support families at home.
“As a former educator and now parent of two middle school-aged children, I know the sudden switch to distance learning can be challenging,” stated Christina Oliver, Executive Director of Classroom, Inc. “Many have asked me how they can support the incredible teachers who have stepped up to ensure learning continues for all students. Words of encouragement are powerful! Just 30 seconds can uplift a teacher and her class and make a difference. We invite America to join us.”
For over 25 years, Classroom, Inc. has helped more than one million students nationwide develop reading, writing, and career skills. Their learning game platform, Read to Lead, offers lessons, projects, and unique virtual workplace reading games, giving middle school youth an innovative and fun entry point to read, write, and develop leadership skills.
