EDUCATOR SUMMIT 2020 TO BRING TOGETHER EDUCATORS AND WORLD-CLASS RESEARCHERS OF CHARACTER
This year’s virtual experience will increase accessibility to educators across the country

PHILADELPHIA — On July 22, Educator Summit 2020 will bring together world-class scientists and teachers to pursue their shared goal of helping students develop character. Now a one-day virtual experience, Educator Summit 2020 is the sixth annual conference hosted by Character Lab and Relay Graduate School of Education (Relay GSE).

Educator Summit 2020 will create a space for collaboration between teachers and researchers championing character development work. This year’s keynote speakers are Reshma Saujani, the CEO of Girls Who Code, and Chris Emdin, professor and author of For White Folks Who Teach In the Hood and the Rest of Y’all Too. Participants will also engage in practical workshops on research-backed methods of infusing character development in schools.

Out of concern for safety, Character Lab and Relay converted Educator Summit 2020 into a one-day virtual experience. They also reduced the registration fee to $100 to make this professional development opportunity accessible to more educators. By hosting the event virtually, Educator Summit 2020 will continue to uphold its original objectives to make space for collaboration and opportunities for teachers to apply research to their school communities. As students and schools confront unprecedented challenges, the content shared at Educator Summit 2020 will support them in continuing to learn, thrive, and lead.

“Great teachers help students develop academic skills and strength of character...and to see both in themselves,” said Relay President Dr. Mayme Hostetter. “Educator Summit 2020 is our chance to help teachers create the conditions in their classrooms—wherever those classrooms may be—for their students to flourish.”

The list of speakers at Educator Summit 2020 includes Mark Brackett, director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and lead developer of RULER, a systemic, evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by over 2,000 schools across the world; and Dr. Jason Okonafua, professor of psychology at U.C. Berkeley, whose research examines social-psychological processes that contribute to inequality. Dr. Rebecca Goodand, Dr. Naama Wrightman, and Christine Eisenhauer, deans at Relay, will also lead workshops.
