- China was the leader, followed by India, though China’s application numbers dropped 3% in 2013 and 1% in 2014, while India’s numbers increased 22% in 2013 and 32% in 2014.
- Brazil had the largest increases in applications in 2013 and 2014: 25% and 32%, respectively.
Dive Insight:
The Council of Graduate Schools' annual survey shows that Chinese nationals are 33% of the international grad student pool in the U.S., followed by Indian nationals at 18%. According to the report, if applications from Chinese students continue to decline, it could ultimately lead to decreases in overall international applications. Also, the growth of applications in business, engineering, and physical and earth sciences returned to their levels from 2011 and 2012.
