- According to students responding to a survey from for-profit education company Laureate International Universities, the university of the future will provide courses in multiple languages, free online libraries, courses designed by industry experts, and the teaching of career-oriented skills, not just subject matter.

Many of the responses reflected a majority or plurality agreement supporting concepts that would be driven by online learning. For example, 43% of the surveyed students said courses would include free content on the Internet to unlimited numbers of students, 52% said most courses would be offered at any time of day or night, and 44% said most courses would have no fixed schedule. Also, 44% said instructors would be "part-time industry experts instead of full-time instructors," and 64% said grades will be based on a combination of academic performance and how much students contributed to teams.
